Sabi nila ang mga pinoys mahilig sa crab mentality. It’s not good to generalize coz there are really a select few who are genuinely happy when a fellow Pinoy is successful.

What is crab mentality anyway? The metaphor is taken from a group of crabs placed inside a basket wherein one tries to go up but is being stopped by others by pulling him down. But there’s also a different story to that. I’ve also heard somebody said that it is untrue. According to him or her (whoever it was), crabs are actually helping push that one crab up to escape out from the basket.

Well, maybe the best thing I should do next time when we buy live crabs is to take a better look and see which really describes the right crab mentality metaphor.

Anyway, are you happy when your neighbor is experiencing success in his life (and celebrate with him)? Or do you get jealous and curse his blessings?
